BINTULU: The Yek Min Ek Foundation has selected seven new scholars to receive its scholarship this year.
Trustees chairman Yek Siew Liong said they were among the 15 applicants who applied for the scholarship.
“This adds to a total of 22 scholars, including 15 continuing scholars, from the previous years. The selected candidates will be contacted by telephone,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He said the foundation set up by his father in 1984 aims to assist students from lower income families, irrespective of race or religion, with good results to further their studies.
“Over the past 33 years, a total of 314 students have benefited from the scholarships.
“Yek Min Ek Foundation scholars do not need to repay the scholarship; however the scholars must serve in Sarawak for a minimum of three years upon the completion of their degrees,” he added.
Also present at the press conference were trustees Dr Wong Ching Seh, Hii Ching Chiong, Law Siong Lee, and secretary Edith Yek.
